Thank You, Big Bend Conservation Alliance!
Marfa ISD’s junior high students partnered with Ms. Hermosillo from Big Bend Conservation Alliance to bring its very own flex farm to Marfa ISD! Students will be able to grow their own fresh food, year-round, using hydroponic farming.
7th grade students transplanted their green leaf lettuce seedlings to the flex farm and successfully germinated all 200 of their seeds!
SUCCESS! Students harvested the green leaf lettuce and securely packaged it for the MISD cafeteria to share with students and MISD faculty and staff. The students were able to feast upon their freshly grown produce in the form of a deliciously prepared salad at Robinson Cafeteria! Thank you, cafeteria staff!
The flex farm will now be utilized throughout the year and thanks to the Big Bend Conservation Alliance, Ms. Hermosillo, and Ms. Lora Loya, MISD students have learned the benefits of a flex farm, its components, and the benefits of using one of the most efficient and transformative forms of agricultural technology around.
