Upcoming Events for Seniors!

8th graders visited the Dixon Water Foundation site down south. This morning, the students were able to walk along the creek bed and learn about the wildlife and vegetation living in our area.
Thank you to Dixon Water Foundation for an awesome partner with our school and to Mrs. Loya for being a valuable part of our Shorthorn family!

Update: Last Day of School is May 19, 2023.

Mrs. Livingston's High School class is passing on their love of reading to Marfa's little Shorthorns. Beginning with the Pre School class today, they will be reading to the Kindergarten and First grade classes later this week. Ms. Rios' students were able to enjoy two stories during their reading time today.

Mr. Klockman represented Marfa ISD this past Thursday on the Teachers and Technology panel at Sul Ross State University’s Celebration of Teaching Recognition Reception. He did an outstanding job presenting information on technology in today's classrooms.
Mr. Klockman is just another example of why it is great to be a Marfa Shorthorn!

On Friday, four Marfa seniors piled into a suburban to head to State VASE (Visual Art Scholastic Event) in San Marcos, Texas. Alex Luna, the advancing artist, chose three friends to accompany him on the trip. That night, the students and Ms. Powers checked into the hotel and headed to the outlet mall after dinner on the river.
On Saturday, Alex, Juan Bautista, Aubrie Aguilar, Tori Torres and Ms. Powers went to San Marcos High School to see all the works that advanced to State VASE displayed in the school’s gyms. The effect was overwhelming: of the 32,000 artworks submitted to regional VASE competitions throughout Texas, only 2,000 advance, putting Alex’s work in the top 6% of all artwork made by high schoolers throughout the State. The Marfa students & Ms. Powers wandered through the makeshift galleries in awe, frequently taking pictures and expressing delight after finding Alex’s drawing, entitled Adrift in Mental Space, a pink and blue Prismacolor self portrait.
That afternoon, the group continued to make the most of San Marcos: going on a glass-bottom boat tour & seeing the aquarium at Texas State’s The Meadows Center, eating barbecue, taking a dip in the river & braving a few rapids in inner tubes.
On Sunday, the ride back to Marfa was mostly silent—the students slept, exhausted, as Ms. Powers drove them back home.
